Il patrimonio della Biblioteca è costituito da libri antichi, libri moderni (dal 1831 ad oggi), manoscritti, incunaboli, bandi, editti, notificazioni, opere in e relative alla musica. Ai volumi si affiancano un’importante emeroteca e un archivio fotografico. Il patrimonio librario consiste in 100.000 libri, di cui 60.000 parte di fondi, frutto di acquisti, legati testamentari o donazioni. Sono costituiti principalmente da volumi di storia e storia dell’arte locali, anche se mantengono caratteristiche specifiche legate alle personalità dei loro proprietari precedenti. A questi si aggiunge un ulteriore nucleo storico formatosi a partire dal 1837 (data di fondazione della Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna) alla fine degli anni Ottanta, all'interno del quale sono reperibili testi antichi e moderni. La collezione di quotidiani e periodici annovera titoli e testate di varia natura dalla fine del XVIII secolo ad oggi. Attualmente sono attivi una ventina di abbonamenti a riviste specializzate in storia dell'arte. La fototeca è costituita da un nucleo di circa 60.000 fototipi, articolati in diversi fondi. La storia dell'archivio fotografico ha inizio nella prima metà del secolo scorso, quando l'allora conservatore delle Collezioni della Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna si rese conto dell'importanza di acquisire documenti che testimoniassero i cambiamenti urbanistici di Bologna dopo l'attuazione del piano regolatore del 1889.

The library’s holdings include ancient books, modern books (from 1831 to the present), manuscripts, incunabula, public notices, edicts, notifications, opera librettos, and works on music. Along with the library, there is an extensive newspaper archive and a photographic archive. The holdings include 100,000 books, of which 60,000 come from collections that were purchased, donated, or bequeathed. Most deal with local history or art history, and many bear specific characteristics from their previous owners. In addition to these is a historic collection which was put together from 1837 (the year when the Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna was founded) to the late 1980s, and which includes both modern and ancient texts. The collection of daily newspapers and periodicals includes publications of many different types from the late 18th century to the present. The library currently subscribes to about twenty art history journals. The photo archive includes about 60,000 images, which comprise several different collections. The history of the photo archive begins in the first half of the 20th century, when the curator of the collections of the Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna realised the importance of acquiring documents that would testify to the changes in Bologna’s cityscape after the implementation of the 1889 zoning plan.
