The Museum is located in the cellar of the 15th century fortress, which once belonged to the Dal Verme family. It displays locally-obtained material documenting the settlement history of the Tidone valley, the result of extensive archaeological surveys and digs carried out by Associazione Pandora in close collaboration with the Archaeological Superintendence of Emilia-Romagna. The exhibition takes up three rooms in the ancient fortress and provides an exhaustive overview of the history and settlement of the area between prehistory and the Roman era. In the first section of the exhibition, the geological history of the Po Plain is illustrated with rocks and minerals. The second section is dedicated to material documenting the human settlement of the Tidone valley in the Prehistoric and Protohistoric eras (from the Neolithic to the fifth millennium B.C.) until the brink of the Roman era (2nd to 1st centuries B.C.). Material from the San Martino plain – mostly pottery remains - is particularly noteworthy. The plain was home to a settlement that was established in the middle Bronze Age (16th century B.C.) and remained until the 2nd century B.C. The large third room displays items from the Roman area, as well as a few Medieval pieces. It includes a sample of the objects found in the settlement previously located near the Pianello cemetery. The Museum recently purchased an early Imperial age funeral stele; the area where it was found has already produced a capital decorated with volutes, ovulo moulding, and palmettes, perhaps from a funeral shrine. The exhibition continues with Roman material from many archaeological sites in the valley, such as the Late Antique sarcophagus from Vicomarino and grave goods from the Ganaghello burial site, in the Arcello villa in Trevozzo. Along with architectural material, the Museum also displays household goods and some important numismatic material. Nei sotterranei della rocca quattrocentesca, già dei Dal Verme, il museo raccoglie i materiali provenienti dal territorio comunale utili ad una piena ricostruzione delle antiche dinamiche demografiche della Val Tidone, coronando in tal modo la lunga attività di scavi e ricerche di superficie condotte dall'Associazione Pandora in stretta collaborazione con la Soprintendenza archeologica dell'Emilia-Romagna. Il percorso espositivo si snoda negli antichi ambienti offrendo in tre sale un quadro esaustivo della storia e delle caratteristiche del popolamento dell'area nel lungo arco temporale intercorrente dalla preistoria all'età romana. Nella prima parte del percorso minerali e fossili illustrano le fasi di formazione della pianura padana. La seconda sezione è invece dedicata ai reperti che documentano la presenza umana in Val Tidone in epoca preistorica e protostorica (dal Neolitico - V millennio a.C.) sino alle soglie della romanizzazione (II/I secolo a.C.). Da segnalare le testimonianze della Piana di San Martino - per lo più manufatti ceramici - ove ebbe vita un insediamento sviluppatosi a partire dalla media età del Bronzo (XVI sec. a.C.) sino al II sec. a.C. Nella vasta terza sala vengono passati in rassegna i materiali di epoca prevalentemente romana, oltre a qualche reperto altomedievale. Vi è esposta una campionatura degli oggetti rinvenuti nell'abitato presso il cimitero di Pianello. Di recente acquisizione è una stele funeraria altoimperiale proveniente da una zona nella quale era già stato recuperato un capitello, graffito e decorato da volute, ovoli e palmette, forse pertinente ad un'edicola funeraria. L'esposizione prosegue con i materiali romani da vari siti della vallata, fra cui il sarcofago tardoantico da Vicomarino e i reperti della sepoltura di Ganaghello, della villa di Arcello, dell'insediamento di Trevozzo. A significativi materiali architettonici si affiancano diversi oggetti facenti parte dell'instrumentum domesticum e alcuni importanti reperti numismatici.
