Il museo, allestito all'interno della Torre dei Bolognesi, racconta la storia della Comunità nonantolana e del suo territorio sulla base di tre fili conduttori: la trasformazione del territorio, l’evoluzione del borgo e lo sviluppo della comunità di Nonantola. Il percorso espositivo, sviluppato su quattro piani, illustra attraverso documenti, fotografie e reperti archeologici, le fasi salienti della storia locale con un andamento a ritroso, che partendo dalla contemporaneità della città di oggi accompagna il visitatore fino all'antichità dei primi insediamenti. Da segnalare che al piano terra è possibile effettuare una visita virtuale del museo per chi non ha la possibilità di accedere ai piani superiori. In questa sede poi in seguito al sisma del 2012 è stata riallestita la mostra "I Ragazzi ebrei di Villa Emma a Nonantola: 1942-1943" curata dallo storico tedesco Klaus Voigt, che racconta un importante episodio legato alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale che vede coinvolta la comunità nonantolana nel salvataggio di 73 ragazzi ebrei. Il museo documenta, al primo piano, le trasformazioni della città sulla base degli sviluppi socio economici e dei grandi eventi storici del ‘900; al secondo, l'evoluzione della campagna e del territorio dal primo novecento fino al XVII secolo; al terzo piano i 700 anni di storia dall’avvento Napoleonico fino alla nascita del Monastero di San Silvestro. Il quarto piano, infine, offre un excursus sulle età più antiche di Nonantola, con reperti dell'età del Bronzo medio, tardo-villanoviani ed etruschi, ma soprattutto d'età romana. Di particolare interesse la visita al Belvedere, il punto più alto della Torre e la lamina aurea proveniente dall'insediamento terramaricolo di Redù. The Museum, located in the Bolognesi tower, tells the tale of the Nonantola community and its territory through the transformation of the landscape, the evolution of the town, and the development of the community of Nonantola. The exhibitions, which occupy four of the building’s floors, use documents, photographs, and archaeological finds to illustrate salient events in local history, starting with the modern city and travelling back in time to the earliest settlements. The opportunity to visit the Belvedere, the tower’s highest point, is of particular interest.  The Museum’s first floor documents the city’s transformation following the socio-economic development and historic events of the 20th century; the second floor deals with landscape changes and agricultural evolution from the early 20th century back to the 17th century; the third floor documents the 700 years between the advent of Napoleon and the founding of the Monastery of San Silvestro. Finally, the fourth floor focuses on Nonantola’s ancient history, with material from the middle Bronze Age, late Villanovan and Etruscan times, and especially from the Roman era. An exceptionally interesting piece is the gold leaf foil from the Terramare settlement of Redù.
