Cimitero Ebraico - Ferrara

dc:description
Not far from the Christian Cemetery, and set in the greenery of the Addizione Erculea, is the ancient Orto degli Ebrei Jewish cemetery, a plot of land purchased by the local Jewish community in the 17th century. It is a place steeped silence and charm, where nature reigns supreme, surrounding and almost enveloping the headstones, the oldest of which date back to the 19th century, since earlier ones where removed by the Inquisition and used to fashion the column that supports the statue of Borso d’Este at the Palazzo Municipale. The sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro is responsible for one of the most interesting tombs from an artistic point of view, that of Giorgio Bassani, the famous writer who died in 2000.
