http://dati.emilia-romagna.it/id/ibc/IT-ER-PR014 entità di tipo: Museum

The Museum was established following the donation of a sizable collection of objects to the Municipality of Traversetolo that formerly belonged to a renowned local goldsmith named Renato Brozzi (1887-1963). In addition to Brozzi’s artwork, the Museum contains the correspondence he exchanged with Gabriele D'Annunzio. In fact, in 1919, the poet came into contact with Brozzi’s work, giving rise to a fruitful working relationship as well as to a friendship that continued up until 1936, the year in which D’Annunzio died. As such, visitors to the Museum can admire letters signed by the poet, together with items described in the missives themselves. Moreover, the Museum contains statues as well as various works of fusion, in addition to the artist’s tools of the trade, accounts, and artefacts connected to his life and work. A veristic artist, Brozzi never broke away from his late 19th century academic training during the course of his life as a painter, sculptor, and goldsmith - in spite of achieving a certain level of quality with British Arts and Crafts movement pieces, so much so that many of his bronzes were awarded prizes. All of his work features a sinuous naturalism. A student of both Daniele De Strobel and Cecrope Barilli, as well as a contemporary of Amedeo Bocchi at the painting course given by the Accademia di Belle Arti of Parma, Brozzi had a penchant was for sculpture and jewellery. As time went by, his elegance and skill enchanted Gabriele D’Annunzio, who became his biggest client and friend in 1920, when the artist and the poet first met. As such, Brozzi was the creator of a number of works of art that decorated D'Annunzio’s home in Gargnasco a Gardone, as well as several small and large sculptures, such as the Coppa del Benaco, the Coppa del liutaio, the Testuggine Cheli, and the Vittoria Navale, whose twin connotes the Municipality of Traversetolo. The Museum’s collection bears witness to Brozzi's life, his works, and his interests, with sections dedicated to his paintings, sculptures, and library – with its books, music scores, pamphlets, and magazines, as well as the copious correspondence he exchanged with D'Annunzio. The paintings are organised by figurative genres, such as academic exercises and nude studies, animals, landscapes, portraits and preparatory studies, while, the sculptures have been arranged by type: bronzes, plates, medals and coins, plaques, and embossed medallions. Over the past few years, exhibitions at the museums have included "Dalla Dittatura alla Libertà” and "Traversetolo Paese di Scultori”, in addition to an exhibition of the works of Vittorio Ferrarini, held in Colorno in 2007 in coordination with the Province.
