Il museo intende essere un tributo alla vocazione di una terra e alla simbiosi stabilitasi tra questa e la sua gente. Sin dal medioevo, infatti, il marrone era tra gli alimenti fondamentali delle popolazioni delle montagne e rappresentava uno dei pochi prodotti che animavano un'economia rustica e povera. Speciale per le sue caratteristiche, dolcissimo e di pezzatura grossa, unico a queste latitudini, ha conquistato i mercati nazionali e quelli esteri e che oggi come ieri, curato con consumata passione, alimenta un'originale tradizione gastronomica. Attrezzi, materiale fotografico, antichi testi: tutto quanto esposto testimonia dell'esistenza di una vera e propria civiltà dalle origini antichissime e che sopravvive oggi, più florida che mai, usando tecniche di coltivazione diverse ma con lo stesso spirito di rispetto verso la Natura.
The museum is a tribute to the vocation of a terroir and the symbiosis formed between a land and its people. Since the Middle Ages chestnuts have been a key source of food for the mountain populations and they represented one of the few products driving a poor and rustic economy. Prized for its characteristics, sweetness and large size – making it unique at these latitudes – the local chestnut has conquered national and foreign markets and, as in the past, great care is still lavished on this production, which is part of an original culinary tradition. Equipment, photographic material and ancient texts: everything on display bears witness to the existence of a true civilisation with very ancient origins, one that has survived today and continues to thrive. Though different cultivation techniques are now used, the respect for nature is unchanged.
