Museo del Duomo - Berceto

The small Museum is annexed to the cathedral which is dedicated to Saint Moderanno, Bishop of Rennes, who was abbot here from 719. Items for religious purposes, religious ornaments and vestments, are kept in an old side chapel of the cathedral. In the museum, in special glass cases, are exhibits from the older church, gold religious ornaments, reliquaries, monstrances, rare chalices and vestments. Among the items on show, the so-called cope of Saint Moderanno deserves particular attention, it is a vestment of green satin either of Byzantine origin between the 8th and the 9th century, or made by craftsmen in Lucca in the 12th century; also a chalice of 1517 finely wrought with motifs of vine shoots and acanthus leaves, and a glass chalice of uncertain date (about the 8th century), found in a tomb in the church.
