Villa Bighi was donated to the Municipality of Copparo in 1994 by Dante Bighi (Copparo 1926-Milano 1994). The artist intended the villa to be used to pursue cultural, artistic, and intellectual activities. Bighi was a poet, photographer, writer, graphic designer, and publicist, and he founded the Nouveau Realisme movement along with Pierre Restany. He contributed to many companies’ corporate identities by designing their industrial brands, starting with IBM Italia, and including La Domenica Sportiva, PAM supermarkets, illycaffe', Phonola, the Milan subway, and many other representative Italian brands of the 1970s and 1980s. The Villa was designed by Bighi himself in 1962, as his residence in Copparo. It was his only architectural project, and was inspired by the Finnish architect Aalto. The Villa’s interior features its original furniture, which was also donated to the Municipality of Copparo, along with numerous works of art, including many of Bighi’s, and an extensive library comprising books, exhibition catalogues, and advertising art publications from the 1950s to the 1980s. The Villa houses the Dante Bighi Study Centre, a non-profit organization that promotes cultural education as a civic project. The Study Centre was established in 2008 as a multi-purpose space, combining research on Dante Bighi with the promotion of various cultural and artistic activities through the organization of exhibitions, conferences, concerts, theatre performances, educational activities, etc. The Centre is part of an inter-provincial network known as the Contemporary Art Production Centres in Emilia-Romagna (CPC), which also includes the Remo Brindisi Museum in Comacchio and the Torri dell’Acqua in Budrio and has its own website
