Museo della Guerra Linea Gotica - Castel del Rio

The museum was established in 1978 through the efforts and commitment of several citizens who formed a volunteer association with the aim of exhibiting the collection of artefacts and war material they had retrieved in the Santerno Valley. Following the restructuring work done on the Palazzo Alidosi and thanks to contributions from the municipal government, the Institute of Cultural Assets and private individuals, the museum now boasts over 500 square metres of floor space, with sections dedicated to the Great War, the Second World War and the passage of the war front through the valley, the activities of the underground movement and the deportation of citizens from Castel del Rio. The collection has over 1600 pieces and is composed chiefly of weapons, uniforms, equipment and matériel pertaining to the armies who fought around Imola and Bologna during the Second World War. There are also numerous artefacts documenting the local setting in the pre-war period. A library devoted to this subject, also the outcome of donations, has approximately 1500 publications.
